“When we deny our stories, they define us. When we own our stories, we get to write a brave new ending.” ~ Brene Brown

Sharing my story publicly is not the easiest thing I’ve ever done. We live in an image-obsessed society where being flawless is admired. We all have parts of our story that we feel vulnerable sharing with others.  Since human beings are wired to avoid pain, it’s easy to lock up the portions of our story that are difficult to share and try hard to forget about them.

It’s easy to stay hidden. We suffer alone. But if we decide to confront those challenges we’ve faced – and mistakes we’ve made – and, by doing so, accept them, something magical happens. We heal. We become empowered to change. We give others permission to “fail” miserably too. We inspire them to own the parts of their story that causes them to feel shame.

And, while we can’t re-write the past, we can influence the next chapter in our life.

When you start to believe, truly believe, that everything happens for your greater good, you realize that difficulties and challenges in life pull and stretch you in ways you never imagined. And as you expand, you become more awake, more alive, stronger and even more aligned with your soul’s purpose. The Universe carves a path for you. Owning your own story helps you gain clarity on who you want to show up in the world. Sometimes it takes realizing you are out of alignment to be able to see how to connect with your life’s mission.

You can decide to redefine your success. At the end of the day, you can decide what success means to you. You may decide to measure your success not by how many zeroes are in your bank account, but by how many lives you touch, how many lives you’ve changed and how strong your creative fire flows.

Perhaps you are reading this and realize you are ready to shift your perception and, instead of feeling shame, you are ready to own your story and your truth. You can choose to see and accept your own shadow (the aspects of yourself you have been taught to judge, reject or even hate.) You don’t have to share your story publicly – but you can if you want to. Just allow acknowledgement for the hidden gifts within you, for the sake of your own healing. You are light, and beauty; truth resides within you.

Isn’t it time for you to forgive and release what is no longer needed? Are you ready to own your own story and, in so doing, grow, heal and expand?

That is a powerful place to be.
