How do you define Success?
What does it look like for you?
A 6 or 7 figure business? A beautiful home? High end car? Gorgeous, loving, attentive, wealthy life partner or spouse in your bed? Beautiful, healthy children? Financial and personal freedom?
However you choose to define success, getting clear on what you desire is a key part of achieving it.
Taking the time to get clear on what you want to achieve, then making a plan for how you will achieve it, is a key factor in creating joyful success.
Once you have a plan, then you have to be able to stay in action on the plan – adapting it when necessary – until you achieve the results you want. You have to BE unstoppable!
Next you need to ask yourself WHY you want the things you desire.
I’ve learned the hard way that it’s not just about achieving success. It’s about creating joyful success. It’s about achieving the things that are meaningful to YOU. And to do that you’ve got to take the time to figure out what YOU really want. Not what your parents wanted for you, or your spouse, or society tells you that you should want, or have, to be considered successful.
Who you are being in your business or your life is key. It’s the how you do what you do. How you show up will impact the results you achieve and, more importantly, how much fun you have along the way.
As a personal development and business success coach, I’ve helped many people heed the inner call to make a change that is often heralded by an increasing sense of dissatisfaction with their life or business. It is a journey I have walked myself.
I started my career as a physical therapist. I loved it and I was excellent at it. I had made the career choice after the requisite session with the career counselor for high school seniors. She asked me what kinds of things I loved doing. I loved helping people like my Mom did (she was a nurse) but I didn’t want to clean up after them. I also liked sports (even if I wasn’t very good at it). She suggested I investigate physical therapy and, since I didn’t know what they did, I should spend a day at the Mona Rehabilitation center (which I did).
I went on to have a 25 year career in the field of physical therapy, including having a successful private practice and Wellness Center for over 15 years.
I felt so blessed to have fallen into a career I loved and was excellent at. Not everyone was as lucky. I remember a classmate of mine saying at graduation “I don’t want to do this, I’m going to medical school”.
Physical therapy also facilitated my return to the USA as the job demand was high and work permits were easy to obtain. I rose through the professional ranks quickly to the “pinnacle” position of Director of Rehabilitation for a corporation that had many different facilities on the east coast. In 6 months, I took a start up clinic in a retirement community to being the top grossing clinic of 17 on the east coast.
Amidst the accolades and the financial bonuses – the corporate worlds indicators of success – I began having panic attacks.
This was my wake up call. My internal alarm going off. My “inner GPS” helping me to get back on track with my Souls desires.
Taking the job initially facilitated a goal I had: to return to the USA. It also facilitated me learning new management skills and boosting my self confidence, all of which would serve me later on in my own business. However, it was time to move on because the hours I was putting in were impacting my home life – my relationships with my husband and children – which was a bigger priority for me.
Part of creating joyful success is being able to live in what I call your ‘Million Dollar Zone’: A state of being where you are happy, grounded, energized, clear, focused, calm, creative, and magnetically attractive. When you are in your million dollar zone, opportunities appear (seemingly like magic), your money flows and your stress levels are low. You meet life’s challenges with ease and grace and adapt to change easily.
We’ve all had days where nothing goes right, your energy is low and you feel miserable! There are times in life where you find yourself doing things you’d rather not be doing. Here’s the key: It’s not so much about what you doing but how you are FEELING about what you are doing.
How you are BEING profoundly impacts how you function and you function much more optimally in your Million Dollar Zone.
To achieve meaningful, joyful, success you must be willing to:
1- Get clear on what you want to accomplish and why you want it
(Identify YOUR Million Dollar Zone)
2- Believe it’s possible for YOU to have it (Shift Your mindset)
3- Have a plan for how you will accomplish it (Get support)
4- Become unstoppable by:
- Staying in action on the plan in spite of life’s challenges and the emotional roller coaster they put us on.
- Meeting challenges with ease and grace.
- Keep going in the face of disappointments and detours.
- Managing the stress so you stay mentally sharp, energized and healthy. This is all about making Self Care an integral foundational practice.
