Time Moving Too Fast?

By October 26, 2013 3 Comments

time-lapse-loopI’ve noticed that the older I get, the faster time seems to pass!

Why is that? And even more importantly, how can we slow it down?

Well, I just read a fascinating piece that shares how we can manipulate our lives to slow down the experience of time passing. (Ready for some magic and miracles?!!)

Neuroscientist David Eagleman studied the matter and found that the sense of time passing is dictated by how much information you’re processing. The more “new” information needing to be thought out or comprehended, the more time seems to “slow down.”(Maybe that’s why it always seems to take longer to get somewhere new when I’m going there than when I’m coming home!)

So, if you want to slow down and savor time, you want to feed your brain more new stimulus. (It’s funny how when things are going well and we are enjoying our lives we want to slow things down so we can savor the moments, but when we are in struggle and desperation we want to press the fast forward button and get the hell out of dodge! Lol!)

3 Ways to Feed Your Brain and Slow Down Time:

KEEP LEARNING through reading, trying new activities or learning new skills.

VISIT NEW PLACES as your brain will go into a good kind of “enjoyment overload”as it takes in new sights, sounds, smells and people. (You don’t even have to travel far–a new restaurant or coffee shop will do the trick!

BE SPONTANEOUS and do an activity “out of the norm.” It will make you pay attention, create new memories and heighten your senses–all while slowing down time.

So try something new this week and savor this beautiful gift called life!
