Acknowledgement Vs. Acceptance

You’ve probably heard me talk about the ‘H’ in the SHIFT process being ‘to Honor’ – which is to acknowledge what is, without judgement.

Acknowledging where you are and how you feel is a key action in the process of making a shift /change. For your GPS to guide you to where you want to go, you have to enter a starting point or give it permission to access where you are starting from.

The gap you desire to bridge, close or cross – between where you are (or what you are experiencing) now and where you want to go (or experience) instead – usually requires you to move, act, decide, or choose differently.

Why? Well, You may be familiar with ideas like: “You can’t get different results doing the same thing”. And,“You can’t solve a problem with the same level of consciousness that created the problem in the first place”.

Acceptance, while very useful at points in your journey, is not a requirement to change. In fact, if you keep accepting what you DON’T want, things won’t change.

Start acknowledging what is not working or not feeling good and what you would prefer instead.

Accept 100% responsibility for (consciously or unconsciously) creating or allowing what you are experiencing and make a decision to change it.

Here are some useful questions to help you acknowledge what’s not working for you and begin the process of change:

  • Where have you been settling for (accepting) less than you desire?
  • What belief is keeping you locked into that reality?
  • What would you prefer to be experiencing instead?
  • What do you need to believe in order to create or allow that?
  • What is ONE action you can take right now that is aligned with that belief?

Drop me a note and let me know what you discover!
