The Power of Giving Up

By February 24, 2013 One Comment

For so many of us the idea of “giving up” anything is a negative thing. It is somehow connected with “loss”, which doesn’t usually feel good! We are hard wired (conditioned) to believe that in order to achieve we must never, ever give up!

But here’s the thing, when we have been pushing full steam ahead in a direction that is not yielding the results we want – that is not aligned with our truth – “giving up” can be a really vital part of freeing ourselves up to pursue a different path – one that leads us to everything we desire.

I recently heard a quote that really resounded as truth through my consciousness:

“The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read or write, it will be those who refuse to un-learn and re-learn” (From the book Future Shock).

I knew this to be a profound truth as, in my own experience, I have found much of my learning (conditioning) to be restricting and limiting – not aligned with getting me where I want to go. Keeping me stuck; spinning my wheels.

Movement and expansion  came when I was willing to acknowledge and release what was not serving me and what was not aligned with, and supportive of my vision for my life. The most remarkable thing is that every time I “give up” I actually end up with more! More love, more peace, more abundance, more joy, more money, more friends.

So today I invite you to take a look at your life. Acknowledge what is not working for you now (even though it may have served you in the past). What are you believing about yourself, life and others that is not working for you? That is not supporting your vision for your life?
Would you be willing to give that up? To unlearn the habits and behaviors that are not supporting the life you desire?
You don’t need to know how, you just need to be willing….

Here’s a place you can start:
You take an average of 15-20 breaths every minute. Each breath consists of 2 phases: inspiration (inhaling) and expiration (exhaling). Every time you exhale, you can practice letting go. Every day take 1-2 minutes to tune in to your breath. Follow it in and out. On the inhale, take in as much air as you possibly can and imagine you are taking in all you desire – support, love, money etc. On the exhale, as you completely release the air from your lungs, practice letting go – the tension in your muscles, worry, struggle, pain etc.
Try this and let me know what happens for you!
